My Pretty Woman moment
No, not to worry - I am not a prostitute in a Cinderella story. I am just another victim to opera.
As Edward says in Pretty Woman, "People's reactions to opera the first time they see it is very dramatic; they either love it or they hate it. If they love it, they will always love it. If they don't, they may learn to appreciate it, but it will never become part of their soul."
I have been to the opera in Vienna with my mother (Don Giovanni and another one of which I can't remember.) I loved the opera house and the storytelling.
But last night changed me,
I went to La Boheme in San Francisco. Here is a little snippit:
I absolutely LOVED it. I already knew the beautiful music by Puccini, but I didn't know the meaning of the lyrics or remember the story. The whole event was a pleasure.I may not have looked like this
but it's how I felt.

I'm sure you looked every bit as enchanting as she was. I watched the video...I think I will need to see it live (I'd probably be in the "appreciate it" category at this point.)
Isn't it great to have such a total experience? I am already an opera lover (selective), but it has to be without distraction, which means live of course.
I must admit the chorus scenes in particular don't translate well to a 3in screen. I was laughing at the reaction of many people we know and love. But you and Julia and Cher(Moonstruck) get it! :)
beck, i have never revealed my secret dream of becoming an opera singer! and here on your very blog, i do just that. i've actually tried to scheme how i could ever develop that skill but have come up without zero viable options.
Hey!
I just discovered your blog today and am loving your witty musings! You're adorable!

I'll bet Julia Roberts was in the make up chair for a couple of hours so she could look like that and Richard Gere was probably pinching her to make her cry. But you, my dear, are the real deal...every bit as beautiful with a heart that appreciates the classics. I've never been to an opera however, I believe in my heart, I'd love it. Music easily moves me, just ask your mom. Thank you for sharing this with us.
By the way, who was that hottie standing next to you in the balcony? Someone I know??? :-)
